A Lexington native, Donald was the son of the late John Henry and Grace Woodard Roser. He served as an altar boy at Christ Church Cathedral Lexington and as an elder and deacon at Hunter Presbyterian Church, where he was a member for over fifty years. A passionate patriot, he served in the military in the First Marine Division in the South Pacific, including nearly five months in the Guadalcanal campaign.
He loved his family, golfing, watching UK basketball and the Cincinnati Reds. He worked as a farmer, hardware store manager and engraver, retiring from Kentucky Tack Shop.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Meredith Roser, Jr.
Survivors in addition to his devoted wife of over 66 years, are a son Robert Roser (Glee) of Lexington, two daughters - Joyce Roser Abbott (Ken) of Lexington and Lauralee Webster (Stan) of Portsmouth, OH, five grandchildren - Robyn, Stacia, Elizabeth, Jonathan, and Jacob, and three great grandchildren - Charlie, Sadie, and Emmett. He is also survived by a sister, Frances Smither (Gayle) of Cathedral City, CA.
Funeral services will be at Hunter Presbyterian Church, Tuesday, April 23, 2013, 11 a.m., with Jason Santalucia, Minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5-7 p.m., Monday at Milward-Southland.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hunter Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass.
