Nellie was the last surviving charter member of Durbin Memorial Baptist Church, where she sang, helped lead the Women's Missionary Union, taught Sunday school, and served for over 60 years. She was a tireless supporter of local and international mission work. Her legacy of faith and love among her family and friends will live on well beyond her life on this earth.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Payne Rhorer, her daughter Wava Carol (Rhorer) Griffis and her sister, Mary Katherine Sipes.
She is survived by her son Paul Rhorer and daughter-in-law Frances Rhorer, five grandchildren; Walt (Vicki) Rhorer, Patrice Hyatt, David (Angie) Rhorer, Terry (Lea Ann) Griffis, and Bruce Griffis, seven great grandchildren; Justin (Erica) Rhorer, David Hyatt, Andrew (Sheena) Rhorer, Nathan (Jessica) Rhorer, Jordyn Rhorer, Zak Griffis, and Zeke Griffis, and two great-great grandchildren; Isaiah Rhorer and Mason Rhorer.
Funeral services will be 12 p.m. Tuesday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Main St. with Pastor Michael York officiating.
Visitation will be from 5- 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Athens Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be; Walt, David, Andrew, Nathan, Justin, and Jordyn Rhorer, Terry, Bruce, Zak, and Zeke Griffis, David Hyatt and Larry Stewart.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the North American Mission Board Annie Armstrong Offering in her honor at Durbin Memorial Baptist Church.
