Eugene L. Posey, 87

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Eugene L. Posey, 87, husband of late Shelby Posey, passed away on May 1, 2013. He was the son of the late Clyde and Clara Posey; father of the late Kathy Posey; and brother of the late Patricia “Betty” Vanzile, Kenneth Posey, and Pauline Campbell.

He served during WW II in the U.S. Navy earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a gunner’s mate on the U.S.S. Emmons when it sank in action off the coast at the battle of Okinawa on Apr. 6, 1945 and fought at the battle of Normandy on D-Day. He became a talented watchmaker and jeweler and loved his family who mourn his passing: one son, Kevin E. Posey, Los Angeles, CA, and three daughters, Connie Posey Goldthwait, Brewer, ME, Dewana Posey, Harrodsburg, KY, and Katherine Posey, Lexington, KY; brothers, Ronnie E. and James Posey; sisters, Annalee Armentrout and Carol Szwed; grandchildren, Ashlee Danielle Anderson and Emily Ann Goldthwait; a great-granddaughter, Khylee Tru Anderson; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Buggy.

A private memorial will be held to honor him later this year. Memorials may be made to the VA Med Center Hospice Fund, Unit 27-2, 1101 Veterans Dr., Unit 27-2, Lexington, KY 40502.

Services will be private.

Milward Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
