LEXINGTON, Ky. - Vaiden Q. Cox, 93, of Lexington, KY husband of Mildred McCarty Cox, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Thomson – Hood Veterans Center.
He was the son of the late Vernon and Clara Cox. He was also retired from GE and the United States Air Force where he attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
He proudly served his country by flying in three wars, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He was an Academy Liason Officer for the Air Force and fulfilled his love for the Air Force by volunteering many hours at the Aviation Museum in Lexington. He also loved his church by serving as an elder at Edenside Christian Church in Louisville.
Vaiden had many friends and family and he never met a stranger and always had a story to tell.
Besides his wife, survivors include his children, Kirtley Cox, Durham, NC, Lou Ann Zelenik, Murfreesboro, TN and Susan Montgomery, Palisades, CA; stepson, Frank Farr, Stamping Ground, KY; sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Laverne Howard, Elizabethtown, KY; brothers, Charles Cox, Hummelstown, PA and James Cox, Belleville, IL; three granddaughters, Kerri Burton, Madison and Paulina Montgomery.
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday at Crestwood Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 PM Thursday at the church.
Burial will be in the Point Pleasant Cemetery in Henry County, KY with military rites.
Contributions are suggested to the Aviation Museum.
