LEXINGTON, Ky. - Steely Arliss Rodgers (Arliss), of Churchill Crossings, Nicholasville, KY, and formerly of Corbin and Lexington, KY, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the age of 85 in the Hospice Care Center. After graduating from Corbin High School as valedictorian, Arliss joined the Navy and served in the Mediterranean aboard the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier. Arliss then continued his education at the University of Ky. School of Pharmacy. Arliss devoted 44 years as a pharmacist at Chevy Chase, Idle Hour and Woodhill pharmacies. Arliss’s passions included square-dancing, crossword puzzles, camping, travel and volunteering at Thomson Hood Veterans Center. He was an avid fan of UK football and basketball. Arliss was well-liked and appreciated by everyone he met and will be greatly missed. He was a member of Anchor Baptist Church. Arliss was the loving husband to Chrystene (McCauley) Rodgers.
He is also survived by son David Rodgers (Gail); special stepson Walter K. McCauley (Marilyn) and other extended family. He is predeceased by wife Evelyn (Parks) and daughter Karen Campbell.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd., Lexington. Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home with Dr. Carl Peters officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Corbin.
