Robert ‘Bob’ Louis Scher, 61

sunrise1LEXINGTON, Ky. – Robert “Bob” Louis Scher, 61, beloved son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend passed away suddenly and peacefully on May 30, 2013. “Too Tall Bob” as he was sometimes affectionately called, owned and operated Dipper Dan Ice Cream Store in Lexington Mall and later owned the Dairy Queen on Lansdowne Drive.

Bob had a huge personality and was generally recognized for his delightful camaraderie. He will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Bob was born in Lexington and attended Northwood of Indiana. He was a faithful lifetime member of Temple Adath Israel where he was once President of the Brotherhood.

Bob is survived by his loving and patient wife of forty years Elizabeth “Libby” Bramlage Scher, parents Phyllis and Stanley Scher of Lexington and Boca Raton, FL, sister Nancy Scher Tate (Barry), sister-in-law Cindy Mahan, awesome loving daughters Jamie Scher Fine (Brad) of Lexington and Sydney Scher Blumenthal (Shawn) of Carmel, IN, and his treasured grandchildren Laine, Seth, and Mason Fine and Burke, Dane, and Ava Blumenthal who will miss their adoring “Poppy” greatly. He will also be mourned by his cherished Bishons, Baxter and Teddy.

Bob was preceded in death by his younger brother Lawrence James Scher in 1996. Bob was a proud friend of Bill W. and the Fellowship.

Pallbearers are Jack Miller, Jim Blackerby, Jim Taylor, Bert Doyne, George Moser and Jim Potts. Honorary pallbearers are Bob’s Monday Night Faith Group.

Visitation will be Sunday, 2-5 p.m. at Milward-Broadway.

Service will be conducted by Rabbi Marc Klein on Monday at 10 a.m., Milward-Broadway, followed by interment at Lexington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Larry Scher Memorial Fund at Temple Adath Israel, 124 North Ashland Ave., Lexington, KY 40502. May his memory be for a blessing.
