Paducah Symphony Orchestra 300PADUCAH, Ky. (6/6/13) – Registrations are continuing to flow in for the Paducah Symphony Orchestra’s first ever Summer Music Camp.

Nearly 150 students have registered and more are signing up every day. Camp Director Art DeWeese is enthusiastic this will be a great beginning to an annual event, “This is truly an exciting adventure,” said DeWeese, “and I’m thrilled that the Paducah Symphony has realized this need for an arts enrichment camp that focuses on young musicians in our area.” Along with strings, woodwinds/brass/percussion, and vocal/choral sections the camp will be offering an instrumental-jazz section headed by Todd Hill, Associate Professor of Music at Murray State University. Amy Aucoin, Associate Professor of Music at Murray State University, will be directing up the high school choir. Steve Schaffner, who will be the director of the Paducah Symphony Youth Orchestra for this upcoming season, will be directing the strings, “This will be a great opportunity,” DeWeese asserted, “for present and future members of the PSYO to meet and work with their new director.”

DeWeese expressed his gratitude to WKCTC, “for agreeing to partner with the Paducah Symphony and provide the space for the camp.” He offered special thanks WKCTC president and CEO Dr. Barbara Veazey, Gail Robinson-Butler, director of the Clemens Fine Arts Center, and Todd Birdsong, Technical director of the Clemens Fine Arts Center, for all of their hard work and help.

Even though the first day of camp is quickly approaching, registration is still open at PaducahSymphony.org. Half and Full day options are available ranging from $75-$125. This price includes t-shirt for all attendees and lunch for full day attendees. A limited number of scholarships are still available; the application is accessible online as well
