Norma Harris (Brandenburg) Perry

obit2LEXINGTON, Ky. - Norma Harris (Brandenburg) Perry

"Together Again" - Norma Harris (Brandenburg) Perry peacefully left this world on Thursday, June 6, 2013 to join her eternal sweetheart George Earl Perry Jr. Norma was born September 9, 1923 as the cherished youngest child of Elizabeth (McClancy) and Thomas Turner Brandenburg in Heidelburg, Lee Co, KY, and grew up in Beattyville, KY. After high school she moved to Lexington, KY and in 1954 she and George Earl Perry Jr. were united in marriage at Hunter Presbyterian Church.

Norma was a devoted and loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She shared a special bond with nieces Lona, Susan, and Virginia and nephew Brooks who helped to care for her since the death of her husband and during her final illness. She was also very devoted to her many brothers- and sisters-in-law. She recently welcomed two great-nephews Ian Perry and Knox Vice.

Although Norma and George never had any children, due to their gentle, warm, loving nature they had close relationships not only with their many nieces and nephews but with many other young people who knew them as “Aunt Norma” and “Uncle George.”

In addition to her family, her passions in life included homemaking, nature, and gardening. Even into her late eighties, she maintained lovely flower gardens and abundant vegetable gardens in her yard. Her family & friends always looked forward to her especially delicious tomatoes each summer.

She enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing, and even hunting with her husband, visiting not only the many beautiful KY state parks, but also taking extended camping trips to visit state parks throughout the western US. This adventuresome spirit is no surprise considering that she was a direct descendant of KY pioneer Squire Boone, brother of Kentuckian Daniel Boone!

Norma was preceded in death by her husband George on September 23, 2005. She was also predeceased by her parents; her two sisters Juanita Brandenburg and Mary Catherine Brandenburg Estes and her three brothers Samuel, Guy, and Lee Brandenburg; her dear sister-in-law and friend Abbie (Noland) Perry (Aug 2008); and special nephews Bruce Brandenburg (Aug 1999) and Joseph Alan Rogers (May 2013).

She is survived by brothers-in-law Alwyn Brooks Perry Sr. of Lexington, KY, Ernest Judson Weller of Hathaway, CA, and Louis Allen Perry of Ormond Beach, FL; sisters-in-law Wanda (Perry) Toomey of Lexington, and Gertrude (Robinson) Perry of Louisville; numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Her family feels much gratitude to the caregivers at Sayre Christian Village Nursing Home who lovingly attended her for the past two years.

A funeral service celebrating Norma’s life will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2013 at Milward Funeral Directors, 391 Southland Drive, with Rev. Dick Wilkins officiating. Family and friends may call beginning at 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Interment will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are encouraged to Hospice of the Bluegrass or to the Alzheimer’s Association. www.milwardfuneral.com
