LEXINGTON, Ky. - Fred Stilz Bachmeyer, 65, husband of Bonnie Robinson Bachmeyer, of Lexington, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013.
An attorney, he was well respected in the legal community and retired from private practice in October, 2012. A Lexington native, he was born April 23, 1948, to Roy Wesley and Mary Ann Stilz Bachmeyer. He attended University School and graduated from Henry Clay High School in 1966. He received a BA in Russian Language from Vanderbilt University in 1970. In 1973 he graduated from the University of Ky College of Law with a JD. He served as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, Indiana.
He was an avid and active musician and supporter of the arts for most of his life. He played for over 20 years in the Central Ky Concert Band and was a member of the Central Ky Horn Club. He was a past president of the board for the Central Ky Youth Orchestra.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He supported many non-profit organizations, including the World Wildlife Federation, the Sierra Club and the Planetary Society. He had a longtime hobby and interest in astronomy and enjoyed viewing the night skies with his telescopes. Before his illness, he was a regular donor at the Lexington Blood Center.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by their daughters, Lucy Vaughn Bachmeyer, Alexandria, VA and Leah Glenn Bachmeyer, Lexington; a brother, Roy Wesley Bachmeyer, Jr. and a nephew, Siwa Bachmeyer, both of Lexington.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Milward-Southland where visitation will be from 5 to 8 pm Friday.
