LEXINGTON, Ky. - Betty Ann Shropshire Ross, 85, Lexington, widow of Don Ross of Fleming County, passed away July 6, 2013.
Born in Lexington, KY, she was the daughter of the late J.J.R. Shropshire and Lillie Parrish Weathers Shropshire, and pre-deceased by her brother, Walter Edmund Shropshire.
She attended Randolph-Macon College and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Ky, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority.
Upon her return from Randolph-Macon and during her years at the University of Ky, she began her life-long dedication to inter-generational family enterprises. Her commitment to those businesses was one of the many ways she expressed her devotion to and love for her family, including her focused engagement in daily operations for fifty years with her loving, late husband, Don Ross.
Her other lifetime interests involved the support of her churches, their related seminaries and her friends. She was a former member of David’s Fork Baptist Church, the Junior League, the Lexington Country Club, and the Spindletop Country Club. She is currently a member of the First Baptist Church, Winchester, the Iroquois Hunt Club, the Lexington Club, Fortnightly of Winchester and the Fayette County Women’s Club She is survived by three daughters, Anne Weathers Ross, Hutchinson Island, Florida; Janet Ross (Jacobus) Ockers, Winchester, KY; and Kathryn Ross (Joe) Arterberry, Louisville, KY; and three grandchildren, Sandra Blair Ockers, Atlanta; Richard Shropshire Ockers , St. Louis; and Elizabeth Ross Arterberry, Louisville.
Services 11:30 AM Wed at Milward-Broadway. Burial Lexington Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Joe Franklin Arterberry, Jacobus Martinus Ockers, Richard Shropshire Ockers, Rob Shropshire, Ross Goodpaster and William V. van Arsdall.
Visitation will be 4-7 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
