LEXINGTON, Ky. - Gertrude Gajardo. Gertrude said “getting old is not for sissies.” Born December 31, 1931 in Pewaukee, Wisconsin to the late Vendel and Theresa Ambrus and passed away August 10, 2013. She was a loving mother and grandmother : family, friends, and church were her passion. Gertrude was a Master Gardener, played bridge, and was a lifelong learner. She was an active member of Faith Fellowship and continued to participate in activities at Southern Hills Methodist Church. Gertrude was a participant in Sanders Brown Aging Studies. Gertrude formerly worked as a realtor in Ashland and Lexington, Ky. She was active in neighborhood associations and community activities.
She is survived by daughters: Roxanne (James) Poole of Gilbert SC, Suzanne (Marvin) Guberman of Rehoboth Beach DE, and son: Sergio John Gajardo of Lexington. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren: Sarah Poole, Thomas (Ashley) Poole , Ryan Gajardo and great-grandson Ethan Poole.
She was preceded in death by husband Sergio Gajardo, brothers: Vendel Ambrus, Louis Ambrus, and sister Margaret Jekel.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tues. at Kerr Brothers-Harrodsburg Rd with burial following at the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. till the time of service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association or the charity of choice.
