LEXINGTON, Ky. - James A. Piper, Sr., 92, of Lexington, husband of Carleen Wolfe Harris, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013. He was the son of the late James A. and Johnnie O’Brien Piper. He was retired from the US Postal Service and the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government. He was proud of his role in initiating the Lexington City Parks System. He was also a U. S. Army veteran of WW II and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Besides his wife, survivors include his sons, James Piper III and Kenneth Piper; daughters, Sharon Piper, Linda (Kenneth) Poths, Molly Piper, Betty Piper and Anna J. Woods; step daughters, Sarah (John) Spickard and Connie Trimble; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joe Piper and his siblings, Minerva Hubbach, Ed Piper and Annette Piper.
Visitation will be from 11 to 1 PM Friday at Milward – Southland with a service at 1 PM. Burial will be in the Lexington Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to Hospice of the Bluegrass.
