LEXINGTON, Ky. - Robert Everette Glass, 81, son of the late Robert and Mayme Brockus Glass, passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington on Tues, Aug 27, 2013 from congestive heart failure. He was born Oct 13, 1931 in Lexington.
A graduate of Lafayette High School, he enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a surgical nurse for 4 years and honorably discharged as a Staff Sgt. After returning from military service, he worked with his dad at Bob Glass Electric Motor Repair Shop until his dad’s death. He then went to work for Kentucky Utilities for 23 years. After retiring from KU, he went to work for Fayette County Public Schools as a special needs bus driver. He had planned to return to school in August but became ill the last day of school. Bob was the oldest driver at 81 and worked for Fayette Co. Schools for 23 years. He loved his job and his special children. A member and deacon at Trinity Baptist Church, he was Santa for Blind Buddies at Trinity and nursing homes for 23 years. He was a member of Lake Ellerslie Fishing Club where he enjoyed fishing with his friend Gary Pearl, and was a member of Robert M. Sirkle Lodge #954 F&AM and Lexington Scottish Rite.
Bob is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joyce; his daughter, Cheri (Tim) Morgan; two sisters, Virginia (Bobby) Hollon and Zona (Don) Wessel.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill, and a sister, Mary Joe Taylor, and a nephew, Rob Glass.
Funeral services will be 2:30 pm Friday, Aug 30 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Harrodsburg Rd. by the Bro. E.B. Smith, Dr. Rick Landon, Rev. Bill Fayne, and the Rev. Greg McClellan with burial following in Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. Casket bearers will be Clyde Baker, Ken Clark, Mike Provence, John Carson, Sonny Fain, and Wardie Mason. Honorary bearers will be the deacons of Trinity Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 5 – 9 pm Thu at the funeral home.
