Edward Aloysius Schmelz, 89, of Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Edward Aloysius Schmelz, 89, of Lexington, husband of Lorena Clara Hurst Schmelz, passed away Monday, September 16, 2013. He was Operations Manager for McKesson – Robbins Wholesale Drugs and was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. He also worked in the printing department with the Fayette County School System.

He was the son of the late Aloysius and Grace Miller Schmelz and was a WWII veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Besides his wife, survivors include two sons, John E. (Carol) Schmelz and Alfred I. (Dawn) Schmelz; three daughters, Ann E. (Guy) Rankin, III, Rose M. (William) Denman and Regina (Allen) Day; one brother, Father Damian Schmelz; eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Vincent J. Schmelz and two brothers, Frank and Leo Schmelz.

A funeral mass will be 10 AM Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 until 8 PM Wednesday at Milward – Man O’ War.

Contributions are suggested to a charity of one’s choice.
