LEXINGTON, Ky. - Charles Lewis Christopher, 83, passed away at the VA Hospital on Oct. 16, 2013 due to complications from multiple myeloma. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Elizabeth. He was preceded in death by a son, Blake. Other survivors are a daughter, Sonja (David) Davis, four grandchildren, Yvonne, Justin, Scarlett and Chad; two godchildren, Cindy and Patrick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was born on Feb. 9, 1930 in Clark Co., Ky, son of George and Mary Katherine Christopher. He was a 14 year veteran of the U.S. Navy having served on the destroyer the USS William C. Lawe and the battleship, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Ky where he majored in journalism and wrote for the “Ky Kernel”. He and Elizabeth owned two restaurants in Lexington. He also worked for National Life Insurance and retired as district manager of Advanced Security.
He was a longtime member of Macedonia Christian Church where he served as a deacon and elder. He and Elizabeth were very active members where he served as president of the booster club for the church basketball team. He was an avid reader, loved music, played guitar and also wrote songs. He was an avid sportsman and a member of the 101 Club for 48 years.
Funeral, Monday, 11 AM, Milward-Southland officiated by Rev. Mark Dunn. Burial will be at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens. The deacons and elders of Macedonia Christian Church will serve as casket bearers. Visitation, Sunday, 6-8 PM, Milward-Southland. Memorials may be made to Macedonia Christian Church.
