Arthur E. Abshire, 83 of Lexington,Ky

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Arthur E. Abshire, 83 of Lexington,Ky  beloved husband of 62 years of Joan Allen Abshire, passed away November 24, 2013 at his home. Born April 7, 1930 in Pike County, Ky, he was the son of Arthur and Gertrude Smith Abshire. A graduate of Pikeville College and the University of Ky School of Law, he served in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He was a former Senior Vice President and Trust Officer, First Security National Bank and later formed a private law practice with his son, Abshire and Abshire Attorneys, and had many business interests. He served his community throughout his life and served on several boards, including Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, Ky Easter Seal Society, Tates Creek Christian Church and Blue Grass Christian Camp. He was a member of Tates Creek Christian Church and the Lexington Rotary Club. He was a Paul Harris Fellow, University of Ky Fellow, and Director Emeritus of Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ellery and Frank Abshire.

Survivors are his wife Joan; sisters Elva (Harry) Sizemore, Darlene Wolfe, Lola Abshire, Faye Abshire; two sons Arthur A. (Barbara) Abshire, David Abshire; daughter Valerie Abshire; granddaughters Amy Gorman, Mindy (Ben) McGurt; grandson Eric (Samantha) Abshire; four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Milward-Southland. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Tates Creek Christian Church with visitation beginning at 12 PM. Burial will follow at the Lexington Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, Blue Grass Christian Camp or Tates Creek Christian Church. The family would also like to thank the staff at the VA Hospital, Cooper Drive, Lexington for their kindness and outstanding care during his illness.
