LEXINGTON, Ky. - Frances Carolyn Leach Madden passed away Saturday, November 15, 2013. She was born December 2, 1927 to the union of Frank Rogers and Gladys Marie Cornwall Leach in Franklin, North Carolina. She graduated from Franklin High School and then attended Murray State College where she met and married Bobby Wilson Madden. They moved to Chicago while Bob attended Northern Illinois College of Optometry. They moved to Manchester with their 2 year old, Scott, in 1951 and established Dr. Madden’s optometry practice. Carolyn helped Bob in his practice while raising three children, Scott, Teresa and Roger. She was a member of the Homemakers’ Club and a long-time member of the Manchester Younger Woman’s Club. Her greatest accomplishments and most joy came from being a caregiver to her brothers, her elderly mother, her husband, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, and her husband of 60 years, Bob.
She is survived by her children, Scott and wife Linda, Dr. Teresa Madden, and Roger Madden and wife Tracy. She is survived by four grandchildren: Dr. Jared Wilson Madden and wife Kerri, Justin Scott Madden and wife Kendilynn, Carolyn Elizabeth Madden and Andrew Wilson Madden. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Kelsie Leyton Madden, Brice Gathen Madden, Althea Blake Madden (Alie) and Layla Kay Madden.
Carolyn and Bob will be interred together at a later date following services at First Presbyterian Church with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Franklin, North Carolina. Kerr Brothers, Main St. handling arrangements.
