LEXINGTON, Ky. - Charles Allen 'Charlie' Rinesmith Sr. passed away on Nov. 23, 2013. He was born on June 23, 1939 in Nicholas County, Ky.
Mr. Rinesmith was a graduate of Lexington Catholic High School, class of 1957, and held several academic degrees of higher learning. After 24 years of service he retired from the United States Navy where he specialized in meteorology and oceanography. After military service he worked as a Realtor and as a pari-mutuels teller at various thoroughbred race tracks around the country. One of his pastime pursuits was researching and recording family history. Mr. Rinesmith was an active member of several veterans organizations including The Fleet Reserve Association, The American Legion, The Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Disabled American Veterans and The Sons of American Legion.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Doris Gail Rinesmith, his father, Sanford Dailey Rinesmith, born in Bourbon County, Ky, and his mother, Golda Mae Gilbert, born in Olive Hill, Carter County, Ky.
He is survived by his brother, Bill Rinesmith of Lexington, Ky; two sisters, Barbara Hodgson of Asheville, NC and Claira Coughlan of Montgomery, Alabama; two sons, Charles Allen Jr. of Bremerton, Washington, and Kevin Gilbert of Mount Vernon, Washington; a daughter, Kalen Gail Sonka (John) of Lemon Grove, California; six grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Camp Nelson National Cemetery. Visitation will be after the service at 4 p.m. at the American Legion Hall-Leestown Rd. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home-Main St. is in charge of arrangements.
