LEXINGTON, Ky. - Sara Kathryn ('Sis') Gingrich, 90, of Lexington, Ky passed away at home with family and friends by her side on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. Sis was born on June 15, 1923 in Lancaster County, PA to S. Clyde & Emma Weaver. She married Paul G. Gingrich and worked in her younger days with the family business, S. Clyde Weaver Smoked Meats and Cheeses. As a mother and homemaker, she was also active in service to her church and community, initially in Lancaster, PA then in Lexington, Ky where the family moved during the 1960’s. Sis was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church, serving for many years in the church’s hospitality ministry and singing in the church choir. She was also employed for several years at Old Ky Chocolates.
She was predeceased by her husband, Paul G. Gingrich and a daughter, Patsy Gingrich.
She is survived by daughters, Carolyn Evans & husband, Larry, of Matthews, NC; Kay G. Wilson & husband, Phil, of Lexington, Ky; Sylvia White & husband, Lynn, of Fort Worth, TX, Pam Malicote and husband, Jeff, of Lexington, Ky; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The family thanks Pamela White Sowunmi for her Christian love and care for Sis over the past few years.
Graveside service will be held 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at Lexington Cemetery. Private family viewing held at Kerr Bros. - Main St. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, Ky 40504.
