Unknown 'Christmas Angel' Saves Local Woman's Day

yonts female 300CENTRAL CITY, Ky. (12/24/13) — Around midday Monday, Dec.23, Vicki Yonts dashed into the Central City Walmart to pick up some last-minute Christmas items.

When she dashed back to her car she was in such a hurry she didn't notice that something important was missing from her car. Her purse, complete with credit cards, her cell phone, cash.

“My whole life was in that purse,” Yonts recounted the event to SurfKY News.

”I went to Walmart and was in such a hurry I just left my purse in the grocery cart,” she said. “Then I jumped in the car and drove away. Once I realized what I had done, I started thinking the worst.”

Yonts frantically pulled into the Central City Police Station, and asked Police Chief Brent Roberson if someone might have called from Walmart regarding her missing purse.

Meanwhile, a good Samaritan noticed Yonts' purse as he grabbed the shopping cart from the parking lot to begin his own last minute shopping. The man, whose identity is not known, returned the purse to the customer service desk with contents intact. No reward was wanted.

CPD Detective Steve Casey retrieved the pocketbook from Walmart and had the pleasant duty of delivering it to an anxiously awaiting Yonts.

“I am so happy this stranger did the right thing. It was the best Christmas present I could have hoped for,” said Yonts. “When you consider the worst case scenario. He was my Christmas angel.” Yonts said.

Roberson said the experience was rewarding for everyone involved.

“It’s nice to see people do the right thing, when there just seems to be so much bad news in the world these days,” he said. “It’s nice to know the Christmas spirit is alive and well in Central City.”
