OWENSBORO, Ky. (5/6/13) – A former head volleyball coach at Owensboro Catholic High School from 2000 to 2009 has been named head volleyball coach at Daviess County High School. Steve Howard’s achievements at OCHS include leading teams to win seven district titles and seven regional titles. Other career highlights include sweeping the regular and post seasons in Region 3 in 2003, 2006 and 2007. He has posted nine seasons with 20 or more wins, and five seasons with 30 or more wins.
“I could not be more excited about the opportunity given to me by the administration at Daviess County High School,” Howard said. “Last season, I was lucky enough to have worked with the girls at DCHS and have seen a big improvement in their desire and play. Head coach Kristina Wimsatt Collins and I had a great time moving the program forward. It was nice to get back in the high school gym and see the girls respond so well to our coaching. The girls have continued the pace of improvement in the off-season with a large number going to camps, playing competitive volleyball and conditioning. This is a very exciting time for the DCHS program and I am happy I can be a part of it.”
Howard, who has twice been named Regional Coach of the Year, served as president of the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association from 2010-12. He is also the founder of the local Audubon Volleyball Association, organized in 2000.
