Joseph Dion Connor, 67

obit6PADUCAH, Ky. - Joseph Dion Connor, 67, passed away on June 15, 2013 at 3:15 p.m. He was of the Catholic faith. Joe was a people person with a wicked sense of humor who never met a stranger. He was a member of Rolling Hills Country Club and a former member of its board. Joe so appreciated all the love and support he received from the club members during his difficult battle with cancer. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He worked hard and was always one of the best at every job he ever had, but also knew how to have fun at work and enjoy it. He truly loved his family and was known as ‘Papa Joe’ to the grandchildren. He leaves behind many, many friends including his best friend of over 30 yrs, Vic Dana.

An avid golfer, Joe attended Ohio State on a golf scholarship. After college he became a restaurateur. He owned and/or managed several high end clubs and restaurants first in Ohio, and then across the country until moving south to manage The Country Club of Paducah. From there he remodeled, owned and managed Stacy’s Supper Club in 1989 thru 1996. He received the Duke of Paducah award from then mayor, Gerry Montgomery, for his endeavors. Stacy’s was Joe’s favorite supper club with great food, dancing, and live entertainment each night. There has never been s supper club in Paducah quite like it, and probably will never be. Most recently Joe worked at Mike Smith Toyota and Kia stores as a sales representative. Mike and Travis Smith have been great friends to Joe and a tremendous help to him throughout his illness.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Dion Connor.

Survivors include his mother Mary ‘Betty’ Connor; his wife of ten years, Carolyn Shemwell Connor; his sister, Cindy St. John and husband Dennis of Toledo, OH, sister, Jeanne Von Tress and husband Don of Collinwood, TN; son Joseph C. Connor of Toledo, OH; son, James Dion Connor and wife Angie of Phoenix, AZ and their six children, Ryan, Riley, Rachel, Savannah, Noah and Luke; daughter, Jennifer Connor Codell and husband, John Hagan Codell of Lexington, KY, Jennifer and John are expecting a baby boy; Step-son, Marcus Floyd and wife Janie of Paducah, KY and their three children Jared, Daphne and Mary; step-son, Daniel Floyd of Paducah, KY and his two children, Brenden and Landen; step-daughter, Kendra Sanders of Lexington, KY; god-son, Tommy St. John and multiple nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Visitation will be at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with prayers at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah to be officiated by Rev. Brian Roby of St. Frances de Sales. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Paducah, KY. He was truly beloved and will be missed by many.
