Third Installment of Mayor’s Art Club Artwork Ready for Viewing

doart 300PADUCAH, KY (7/3/13) – The third installment of the Mayor’s Art Club artwork is ready for viewing at City Hall. BiLan Liao and William Renzulli are the featured artists from now through the end of September. The public can view the artwork when City Hall is open, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. The artwork is located in the reception area and office of Mayor Gayle Kaler on the second floor of City Hall. Please note that City Hall will be closed on July 4 and September 2 for the Independence Day and Labor Day holidays, respectively.

Painter BiLan Liao’s work will be on display in the Mayor’s reception area at City Hall for this third quarter. Since 2008, BiLan has worked as an assistant professor at the Paducah School of Art & Design. BiLan was born and raised in China and earned a BFA in graphic design. While living in China, she worked for many years as an artist, art director, graphic designer, and fashion designer. In China, BiLan worked in the position of Vice Chairwoman and the director of the painting and photography department for her district, a position requiring her to supervise the directors of ten county art centers. In 1997, BiLan’s daughter made plans to come to the United States for graduate work, and BiLan decided to move to the U.S. as well. BiLan continued her education earning both an MA and an MFA in painting. She has studied art history and fresco painting in Florence, Italy. She previously taught at Indiana University’s Herron School of Art and Design and at Kendall College of Art and Design. BiLan continues to paint and expand her gallery depicting Chinese history. She also is working on a book.

The artwork of William Renzulli will be on display in the Mayor’s office at City Hall through September. Renzulli is a self-taught artist who has successfully managed careers in both medicine and art. Since moving to Paducah as part of the LowerTown Artist Relocation Program, he has devoted all of his time to art. Working with watercolor, Renzulli’s early work focused on architecture and the built environment, depicting townscapes and urban landscapes. In recent years his interests have expanded, and he now works with a variety of mediums, including clay mono printing, acrylic, a variety of mixed medias, and pastels. In 2002, he was awarded signature membership in the Pastel Society of America. Renzulli’s interest in architecture continues but must now compete with his interest in the rural landscape.

Mayor Gayle Kaler initiated the Mayor’s Art Club in January 2013. At that time, she asked for artists living in McCracken County to submit photos of their work for consideration. A committee consisting of Paducah School of Art Director Paul Aho, Yeiser Art Center Executive Director Josh White, and Rosemarie Steele, arts promoter, reviewed the 27 entries and used a four-point grading system to narrow the list to eight artists. All forms of art were accepted, and the selected artists showcase a diversity of disciplines ranging from sculptors and ceramists to photographers, fiber artists, and painters. Each quarter of the calendar year, two of the eight artists will have the opportunity to display their artwork at City Hall.
