OWENSBORO, Ky. (7/26/13) -- Nutrition supervisors from several Daviess County Public Schools received Kentucky School Nutrition awards in food service excellence at the Daviess County Board of Education’s regular meeting Thursday evening. The awards were given for those who showed creativity in the demonstration of food and nutrition education in a healthy school environment.
A bid for to use Little Caesars pizza/pizzeria products in Daviess County Schools was passed Thursday by the Board of Education. The company has been used in years’ past and will continue its use in upcoming years.
Two requests for school renovations were also approved. Highland Elementary proposed a renovation to improve air flow in a couple classrooms for $4,691. The motion was passed unanimously. Burns Middle School proposed renovations for construction allotting to $9,945. The motion was passed by the board unanimously.
In other business, proposals for lease agreements with the Fiscal Court for Daviess County High School football were passed. The lease agreement would be to use the local middle and recreational fields for practices. There will be no additional charge to use the fields.
Finally, a proposal for student welfare and wellness was passed. This proposal will give tighter control of food brought into the classroom. The concern was mostly for allergen exposures to students using the food. Food used in the classroom will now for instructional use only.
