PADUCAH, Ky. - Elaine Wyatt Wingo, formerly of Lone Oak, passed away August 28 in Richmond, Virginia. Born and raised on a farm outside of Melber, Mrs. Wingo was a retired school teacher who obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees after the age of fifty. She was a spirited and uninhibited person who touched the lives of many. A woman of many interests, she was an accomplished oil painter, an award-winning quilter, and was for many years active in the Republican Party, running, unsuccessfully, for Kentucky State Representative in 1990. Mrs. Wingo was married for 54 years to the late John Will Wingo, the former warden of Kentucky State Penitentiary. Her husband's job took their family to several locations in the U.S. before retirement brought Elaine and John back to Western Kentucky in 1980.
Elaine is survived by her two children, John 'Jay ' Wyatt Wingo (Cheryl) and Jennifer Elaine Bruce (Donald); four grandchildren: Bradley and Eric Miederhoff, Jessica Wingo Shuttleworth (TR), Keirsten Wingo; great-grandchildren Thomson and Wyatt Shuttleworth; her beloved sister Clarice Mathis, as well as nephew Edward Mathis and nieces Carolyn Obermark, Ladonna Bailey, and Harriet Thuesen.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ovelia Beckham and one brother, Howard Wyatt. Her parents were Charles Alexander Wyatt and Maggie Lanier Wyatt.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 5, at 2:00 p.m. at Lone Oak Chapel of Milner and Orr Funeral Home with Rev. Ben Boone officiating. Internment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery in Folsomdale. Friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Thursday, Sept 5, 2013 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner and Orr Funeral Home. A reception will take place at Lone Oak United Methodist Church at 5:00 p.m..
