PADUCAH, Ky. - Joe Thomas Ford, Sr., 81, of Paducah, Ky passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 at 3:58 p.m. at Baptist Health-Paducah.
A native of Mayfield, KY, Joe was born April 6, 1932 to the late Jack and Kelpie Richardson Ford. Joe graduated from Sedalia High School and played basketball at Paducah Community College and Murray State University, where he graduated in 1954 with a B.S. degree. After college, he became a teacher and coach at Symsonia High School, culminating in leading the 1959-1960 basketball team to a regional tournament championship and advancing to the KHSAA Sweet Sixteen championship. After winning the first round game, the team was defeated in the quarter final round.
After leaving the field of education, Joe entered the construction industry as an independent contractor where he retired in 2010.
He is survived by his son, Joe T. Ford, Jr. and wife Kim of Paducah; a daughter, Shawn Coomes and husband William Robert of Eminence, KY; grandchildren, Hunter Ford, Taylor Ford, Colleen Coomes and Palmer Coomes; a sister, Joyce Hawkins of Lexington, KY; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were a sister, Jackie Pyle and his parents.
A celebration of the life of Joe T. Ford, Sr. will be held at a later date. Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah is in charge of arrangements.
