Allen A. (Bub) LaFont

PADUCAH, KY - Allen A. (Bub) LaFont was born in Portageville, MO on November 4, 1913 and passed away on November 3, 2011 at 97 years of age at his home in Brookport, IL.
 
He was preceded in death by his wife of over 70 years, Louise Robilio LaFont; his parents, Samuel E. and Lula Dillinger LaFont; his sister, Alene LaFont Brenner; and his brother, Harry L. LaFont.
 
He is survived by his two sons, John A. LaFont and wife Karen and Steven L. LaFont and wife Valerie; two grandsons, Matthew LaFont and wife Abby and Andrew LaFont; one granddaughter, Victoria LaFont; four great grandchildren, Cannon, Max, Banks, and Rowen LaFont; one brother, Gene LaFont; and several nieces and nephews.
 
Mr. LaFont was known as “Bub” and was a well known businessman in his home town of Portageville, MO. Throughout the years he owned LaFont’s Ice House, LaFont’s Service Station, and until his retirement, owned and ran LaFont Oil Company. He later purchased a farm in Brookport, IL and ultimately he and his wife moved to Brookport to be near their children.
 
“Bub” was an avid fisherman and duck hunter and often took the time to share his love of these sports with his children and grandchildren. He was also known to goose hunt and turkey hunt, if asked. He was active until late in life, was always ready to hear a good hunting story, and never lost interest in the farm. “Bub” was always available to help anyone who asked, and tried to be a good friend to everyone. He was a member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Metropolis.
 
Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Father Michael Chris Mujule will officiate. Burial will follow in the Metropolis Memorial Gardens.
 
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 10 am to 11 am at the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
 
Music will be provided by Lois Crim- organist and Mary Harper-cantor
 
Memorials may be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial/Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9956 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
 
Pallbearers will be Mark Hobbs, Edwin Wood, Matt LaFont, Drew LaFont, Sam Pikey, and Jake Rone.
