Thelma Lois Smith Watkins Meeks, age 92

PADUCAH, KY - Thelma Lois Smith Watkins Meeks, age 92, went home to be with her Savior and Lord Thursday, November 3rd, 2011.

Thelma was born on September 23, 1919, in Paducah to Bert and Ethel Davis Smith. Mrs. Meeks was a retired employee of Normandy Manufacturing and also World Book Encyclopedia. She was a member of Full Gospel Tabernacle and New Geneva Community Church. Thelma Watkins Meeks accepted Christ as her personal Savior at the young age of 13 and was a dedicated servant of the King all her life. Mrs. Meeks was a Sunday School Teacher for many years in her life-time church involvement. She was presented a Duchess of Paducah Award in 1975 for assuming control of a PATS Bus when the driver suffered a life ending heart attack.

Mrs. Meeks is survived by two daughters, Glenda (Johnny) Houseman, Marsha (Danny) Lewis, four sons, Don (Ann) Watkins, Dennis (Patty) Watkins of Sevierville, Tennessee, Gerald Watkins and Darwyn (Kelly) Watkins and a step-daughter, Lois McFarling. Grandchildren include: Cary Calhoun, Blair (Katie) Watkins of Floyd, Virginia, Julia Watkins, Abigail Watkins, Clay Watkins, Evan Watkins, Hunter Watkins, Tim (Jessica) Watkins, Matt (Holly) Watkins, Lakyn Watkins, Brett (Cynthia) Lewis of Boston, Mass., Bart Lewis, Katie Watkins, Molly Watkins, and Luke Watkins. Step-Grandchildren include Mark (Melody) McFarling of Los Angeles, California, Cheryl (Joel)Moreno of Fort Worth, Texas, Jeff Pinkard of Evansville, Indiana and Karen (Marty) Lastinger.

She is survived by 17 Great-Grandchildren, and three Great-Great Grandchildren. Unless otherwise noted, all are of Paducah, Ky. Mrs. Meeks was preceded in death by her first husband of nearly 49 years, Daniel Homer Watkins, her second husband of 9 years, Newton Meeks, Jr., and step-son, Frank (Barbara) Watkins of Paducah and a step-daughter, Laverne (Jesse) Pinkard of Evansville, Indiana. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Q. L. Smith and Melvin Smith, along with 3 sisters, Ruby Burnett, Lura Wolfe, and Velva Dean Vaughn, as well as her parents.

Funeral services for Mrs. Meeks will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Topper Council and Rev. Don Watkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Bart Lewis, Brett Lewis, Clay Watkins, Evan Watkins, Blair Watkins and Tim Watkins. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Lourdes Hospice, P.O.
