PADUCAH, KY - Gene Puckett, 77, of Paducah passed away Friday at 7:00 a.m. at his residence. Gene was a member of Gospel Mission Church where he sang in the choir, was a member of a quartet, taught Sunday School and served in other areas of the church as needed. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and University of Kentucky fan, attending and watching many of their games. He signed with the St. Louis Cardinal Organization and played baseball in North Carolina and Illinois for five years before his baseball career brought him back to Paducah where he played for the minor league team, the Paducah Chiefs . Gene was a former member of Quail unlimited. Until his retirement, Gene was Union Representative for the United Auto Workers.
Survivors include wife of 55 years, Glenda Sue Dunaway Puckett; two sons, Michael Puckett (Carol), Franklin, TN, and Barry Puckett, (Beverly), Murfreesboro, TN; three sisters, Linda Cobb, (Bob), Paducah, KY, Barbara Parker, (Wayne), Calhoun City, MS and Jane Reed, Manila, AR; Six grandchildren, Zachary, Cameron, Mackenzie, Brady, Brylee, and Brock Puckett, and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Herbert Ray and Bertha Brower Puckett; two sisters, Gladys Cope and Luverle Bass; and two brothers, Melvin Puckett and Robert Earl Puckett.
Services will be held Monday, January 9, 2012 at 11:00 am at Gospel Mission Worship Center in Reidland, KY with Rev. John Offutt officiating. Burial will follow at Hardmoney Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 pm Sunday at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah and Monday January 9, 2012 after 9:00 am at the church.
