BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Eva Jane Martin Parker passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012. She was the wife of the late William Jerry Parker. A native of Muhlenberg County, Eva Jane Martin Parker was born on October 1, 1932, to the late Fred Hendricks Martin and Ethel Kessinger Martin Siebe. The youngest of six children, she graduated from Bremen High School in 1950. Following high school, she graduated from Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia and two years later earned a degree in commercial education from the Bowling Green College of Commerce, now Western Kentucky University. While attending BU, she met William Jerry Parker. The couple was married at State Street Methodist Church on December 19, 1954. After finishing college, Mrs. Parker was employed by The Methodist Publishing House in the Adult Division of the Editorial Department in Nashville. While Mr. Parker served in the United States Air Force, Mrs. Parker worked as a secretary in Houston, Texas. Upon the couple’s return to Nashville, Mrs. Parker again
worked in the same department of The Methodist Publishing House until her husband received his J.D. degree from the Vanderbilt University School of Law. In 1959, the couple moved to Bowling Green and Mrs. Parker dedicated her life to her family, supporting her husband and rearing their four children. She was involved in community activities including the Jaycettes and the Southern Kentucky Bar Auxiliary, serving as the organization’s president in 1983-84. At the time of her death Mrs. Parker was a member of the Ladies Literary Club and Chapter O of the P.E.O. Sisterhood. She was invited to join the Literary Club in 1964 and became a charter member of Chapter O in 1966.

Mrs. Parker was a faithful member of State Street United Methodist Church for 53 years. She participated actively in several ministries including the Handbell Choir (for 15 years) and the Mayme Lou Sledge Circle of the United Methodist Women. In addition to her parents and her husband, Mrs. Parker’s siblings, too, preceded her in death: sisters Nancy Scarbrough, Mary Lee Felty, Beulah Mae Phillips, and Anna Rie Carroll, and one brother, Fred Martin, Jr. Surviving her are two daughters, Jane Beth Parker McCarty and her husband Matt of St. Louis, MO; Jo Martin Parker Lynch and her husband David of Knoxville, TN; and two sons, William Jerry Parker, Jr. and his wife Claudia of Colleyville, TX; and Frederick Smith Parker and his wife Amy of Charlotte, NC; nine grandchildren, Currin, Parker and John McCarty; Charlotte, William and Hayden Parker; Jack Lynch; and Alex and Elizabeth Parker. In addition she is survived by five nieces, three nephews, and six cousins. Visitation for Mrs. Parker will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home. A service of celebration of Mrs. Parker’s life will occur at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5 at State Street United Methodist Church. Prior to the service, visitation with the family will occur from 9:30-10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to State Street United Methodist Church, 1101 State Street; WKU’s College Heights Foundation, 1906 College Heights Blvd.; Lindsey Wilson College, Sue Cravens Stivers Alumni House, 210 Lindsey Wilson Street, Columbia, KY, 42728; or the American Cancer Society.
