Robert Vernon Shelby, (Jack) of Greenville, KY

Robert Vernon Shelby, "Jack" died on May 8,2013, Born to Annabel Evans Shelby and Henry Creed Shelby in Walker County, Georgia on February 14,1926, he later served in the US Merchant Marines from 1943-1952 with tours of duty in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean, He had a successful career with Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and supervised the Paradise power generation plant in western Kentucky until he retired in 1982.

In January, 1950 he married Betty Rose Blankenship. They raised three children in Greenville, Kentucky -Teresa Shelby-Johnston and Lori Shelby of Portland, Oregon; and Barry Shelby, who pre-deceased him in (1994). He supported his wife through her battle with cancer until her death in 1987.  In 1988, he married his second-grade sweetheart, Betty Byrd, and relocated back to his home town of LaFayette, Georgia. He remained there until Betty's death in 2012. He spent his final year of life in Frankfort, Kentucky near his grandson, Brad Shelby.

He is survived by four grandchildren, Brad Shelby, Daniel Shelby, Jennifer Gessert, and Jonathan Rosen and three great-grandchildren (Ella and Elias Shelby and Jonah Kramer). He also is survived by a step¬daughter, Karen Penland of Chickamauga, Georgia, three step grandchildren (Rick, Jake, and Kori Penland), and two step great-grandchildren (Anabelle and Owen Penland}, He is lovingly remembered by all of his family, A private, family graveside service will be held at a future date.

Gary’s Funeral Home Greenville, Ky. is in charge of arrangements.
