Frances-CisneyMUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY - Frances Knight Cisney, 97, of Greenville, Kentucky, died on September 27, 2013.  She was born on March 6, 1916, in Greenville, Kentucky, to the late Lucien Brank Knight and Pearl Sumner Knight.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Wayne Cisney.

After graduating from Greenville High School in 1934, she entered Georgetown College where she participated in many activities, including the Student Body Association, Baptist Student Union Council, Maskrafters, the Women’s Athletic Association and president of the Sigma Kappa sorority.  In 1938, she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and she maintained her relationship with Georgetown and served on the Board of Trustees from 1973 until 1981.  She and her husband established the Wayne and Frances Cisney Educational Scholarship to encourage Muhlenberg County students to attend Georgetown College.  In May of 1993, Georgetown College awarded her an honorary Doctor of Letters.

She served her community as president of the Greenville Woman’s Club, the GHS Band Boosters, the Parent Teacher Association, the American Association of University Women, the Girl Scout Council, the local chapter of the American Red Cross, and was a member of the Madeline Order of the Eastern Star and the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was also active in the First Baptist Church of Greenville where she taught Sunday School for 30 years, enthusiastically participated in the Girl’s Auxiliary, the Young Women’s Association, the Women’s Missionary Union, Vacation Bible School and the Joyful Sounds Choir.

She is survived by her daughter, Martha Sue Cisney of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and her sons, Lin (Ann) Cisney of Greenville, and Lucien (Barbara) Cisney of Greenville; four grandchildren, Laura (Mark) Stankewicz of Nashville, Tennessee, Gordon Cisney of Smyrna, Georgia, Charles (Jeanette) Cisney of Alexandria, Virginia, and Adam (Satomi) Cisney of Tamakawa, Fukushima-shi, Japan; and four great-grandchildren, Kate and Beth Stankewicz, Nigel Cisney and Yu Cisney.

Services and visitation will be at First Baptist Church in Greenville, Kentucky on Saturday, October 5, 2013, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral at 2:00 p.m.  Dr. Charles W. Midkiff will conduct the service, and he will be assisted by Rev. Daniel Selman.  Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.  Expressions of sympathy may be made to Georgetown College or First Baptist Church of Greenville.  Gary’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
