MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. - LaVerne Withrow, a longtime resident of Central City, passed away on Friday, October 11, at her home in Paducah at the age of 91. LaVerne, born to the late Kate and Walter Guynn, was the oldest of five siblings (Buddy, Joyce, Harold, and Linda), all of whom predeceased her.

A graduate of Central City High School, LaVerne was chosen as May Queen due to her tremendous beauty and charm. Following graduation, she married a handsome Central City Reds baseball player; the love of her life, John W. Withrow. They made their home in Central City where they raised two successful sons. Mrs. Withrow was an extremely engaged mother who frequently volunteered at her children's schools.

Mrs. Withrow proved to be a talented homemaker, thriving with cooking, gardening and canning. In addition, she was a part-time beautician; her basement beauty shop was a highlight for regulars with laughter and storytelling flowing as freely as the fashion tips.

Mrs. Withrow was active in the Order of the Eastern Star and a lively member of the First United Methodist Church of Central City. She delighted in preparing for and presenting her lessons as a Sunday School Teacher. LaVerne had a bubbly, quick-witted personality. She made friends easily and was a joy to be around. She chose to be happy throughout her life, all the way to the end. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and husband. She is survived by her two sons, Mike Withrow and wife, Shirley Withrow of Edgewood and Dr. Pat Withrow of Paducah. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, Holly Withrow of Independence, Stacy Hirth of Villa Hills, Emily Withrow of Erlanger, Carol and Kim Withrow of Paducah, and Katherine and Dr. Kirk Withrow of Birmingham, Alabama; 11 great-grandchildren, Josh Withrow-Winstead, Evan and Dillion Winstead; Wyatt, Wade and Will Hirth; Blake Withrow, Audrey Withrow-Nagel, Beau Withrow, Silas and Anna Kate Withrow; and one great-great-grandchild, Jacob Withrow.

Funeral services will be Monday, October 14, 2013 at 2:00PM at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Dr. Kevin Brown officiating. Burial in Fairmount Cemetery in Central City. Visitation will be Monday after 11:00AM at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at www.tuckerfuneralhomes.com.
