MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. - Joseph W. Baker Jr., 85 of Greenville, passed away from a recent illness on Friday evening, November 15, 2013 at 9:45 p.m. in the Muhlenberg Community Hospital in Greenville. Mr. Baker was born March 22, 1928 in Drakesboro, KY and he retired from the United States Air Force where he served 26 years in World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War. After retirement he enjoyed cattle farming ,was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a rock hound who loved to hunt rocks. He was of the Baptist faith and for 66 years he was married to Mary Darlene McCain Baker, formerly from Christian County, where she and Mr. Baker dated in high school. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph W. Baker Sr., and Virginia Carver Baker, both from Christian County.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday afternoon November 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. from Gary’s Funeral Home Greenville, Ky. by Rev. Daniel Selman
Burial with full military honors, will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Greenville, KY
In addition to his wife, Mr. Baker is survived by son Joseph G. (Susie) Baker of Hopkinsville, KY; daughter Laura (Michael) Rice of Kent, WA; son John David (Landra) Baker of Laramie, WY; son Jerry Lynn (Denise) Baker of Greenville, KY; seven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren
