MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. - Ruth Alice Rhoades, 83, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014 at her residence in Central City, after a brave battle against cancer. Born in Port Royal, Ky on September 3, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Clarence Tingle and Josie Dell McHatton.
Ruth was a well-known and respected leader in the community. She was a homemaker, as well as a talented, award winning artist and teacher of Folk Art painting. She was a beautiful, sweet woman who loved her family and touched many lives through her kindness and loving disposition. She was a member of Cherry Hill Southern Missionary Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. Ruth married J.E. Rhoades on April 10, 1951 in Louisville, Ky. She was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Tingle Lyle; two daughters, Adella Debra and Debra Jay.
Survivors include her husband, J.E. Rhoades; three children, Tony (Shelly) Rhoades of Bowling Green, T.J. Rhoades of Elizabethtown, and Terri (Kevin) Rice of Central City; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Tucker Funeral Home in Central City, with Bro. Leroy Rearden and Bro. Leroy Vaught officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-8 p.m. and Monday after 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Final resting place will be at Shavers Chapel Cemetery; however, there will be no graveside services. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Shavers Chapel Cemetery Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
