tennis childrenOWENSBORO, Ky. (4/15/14) — The Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department is taking registrations for youth spring tennis lessons.

The program will give youth as young as four years old the opportunity to learn and master their skills as they work through the various levels of play.

Children ten years and under will be taught following the QuickStart Tennis Play Format, developed by the United States Tennis Association. QuickStart Tennis follows a formula that the majority of youth sports have used for years – tailoring equipment and courts to a child’s size and age so that they develop skills and have fun right from the start.

Learn to Play (for ages eleven and over) teaches forehand, backhand, and serves on full court dimensions. For the more advanced players our Intermediate program will introduce players to match play scenarios.

The lessons will take place at Legion Park tennis courts, located on Byers Avenue, and will be taught by Ginni Mather, USPTA Certified Teaching Professional. Racquets will be provided for those without their own.

QuickStart 1 will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. for the 4-6 age groups (fee $26) and from 6:15 – 7:15 p.m. for ages 7 through 8 (fee $28).

QuickStart 2, for ages 9-10, Learn to Play, and Intermediate classes will take place Mondays and Wednesdays beginning at 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. (fees $28).

Classes take place twice per week for two weeks. The Session begins the week of May 5; registration deadline is April 25.

For more information or to register, contact the Owensboro Parks and Recreation Department at (270) 687-8700(270) 687-8700 or visit www.owensboroparks.org.
