GREENVILLE, Ky. (4/18/14) — Leroy Hendrix, 89, of Greenville, Ky., passed away Friday morning April 18, 2014, 1:43 a.m. in Maple Manor Nursing Home in Greenville, Ky., after a short illness.
He was born Sept. 20, 1924 in Muhlenberg County the son of Ora W. Hendrix and Myrtle Sweeney Hendrix. He is a member of First Baptist Church in Greenville and he retired in 1987 after 40 years as a UMWA coal miner. He worked for Gibraltar Coal Mines for 33 years. He was a Army Veteran serving in Germany during World War II. He received the Purple Heart, 3 Battle Stars and was a POW captured fighting in the Battle of Bulge. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Marvin Hendrix, O.W. Hendrix, Zena Hendrix, and James Earl Hendrix.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon April 20, 2014, 2 p.m. from Gary’s Funeral Home Greenville, Ky. by Rev. Daniel Selman. Burial with Military Honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery Greenville, Ky.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara Nell Rowe Hendrix of Greenville, Ky., three sons Thomas (Alice) Hendrix of Kuttawa, Ky., Danny (Betty) Hendrix of Greenville, Ky., Steven Hendrix of Greenville, Ky., two daughters Lenell (John) Burkett of Greenville, Ky., Cathy (David) Johnson of Greenville, Ky., 11 grandchildren David (Mary Lee) Burkett, Christy (Simon) Gales, Kevin (Tionda) Hendrix, Amy (Marcus) Adkins, Jennifer (Jim) Miller, Michelle Clouse, Brent Johnson, Keith Hendrix, Tim Hendrix, Ashley Hendrix and Megan Hendrix, brother Bobby Ed (Jeanette) Hendrix of Central City, Ky.
