Corrine Collins, 92, of Indianapolis, Ind.

bibbs615surfCENTRAL CITY, Ky. – Corrine Collins, 92, of Indianapolis, Ind., went home to be with the Lord on June 15, 2014.

She was born to the late Mr. Rudolph and Mrs. Myrtle Collins, Dec 2, 1921, in Echols, Kentucky. Corrine was reared in Central City in her youth and she graduated from Broadripple High School in Indianapolis, Ind. She resided in Indianapolis, Ind., most of her adult life before relocating to Charlotte, N.C. in 2005.

Corrine was a civil servant for more than 30 years for the State of Indiana until she retired in 2005. She was passionate about making a difference in her community and in her country. She was a dedicated Democrat all of her life and she served an elected office as Precinct Committee Woman for many years in her community. She could be found at the local polling place early in the morning every election day and she was ecstatic to see the election and re-election of President Barack Obama.

Corrine was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Ind. She loved education and she was an insatiable reader. Corrine also loved to travel and frequently visited the home of her youth. She was very proud of being “A Coal Miner’s Daughter.” She shared her faith and the Word of God with others. She also lived and enjoyed her days being loved and cared for by her family.

Corrine is survived by five children, Janice Collins-Banks (Calvin), of Charlotte, N.C., David Collins (Kimberly), Michael Gilbert (Bobby), William James all of Indianapolis, Ind., and Donald McGruder (Helena) of Central City, Ky.  She had twenty nine grandchildren and twenty nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her beloved younger brother James Collins (Priscilla) of Louisville, Ky. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The family is especially grateful for Ms. Pat Watson and Ms. Varnessa Jackson who provided loving Christian care for our dear mother in her last days.

The funeral will be on Saturday, June 21, 2014, 5 p.m., at the Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church in Central City, Ky. Visitation will be 4 to 5 on Saturday at the church. Burial will be in West End Cemetery Greenville, Ky. Bibbs Funeral Home, Greenville, is in charge of arrangements.
