Traffic entering US 60/The Wendell Ford Expressway eastbound from Kentucky 54/East Parrish Avenue/Leitchfield Road will detour along a new section of ramp and the US 60 Extension to Kentucky 603/Pleasant Valley Road. Traffic will then turn left and run along Kentucky 603/Pleasant Valley Road Connector and then make a right turn to get on US 60 eastbound.
Motorists should use caution as a traffic crew sets up appropriate traffic control during the day on Wednesday. Motorists should be alert for changes in traffic flow this shift will create and allow extra travel time to negotiated the permanent detour. This presents motorists making the transition from Kentucky 54 to the existing US 60/The Wendell Ford Expressway eastbound lanes with a 1.6 mile detour.
This permanent detour is the first traffic to be moved to a section of the new highway. The traffic shift will allow the contractor to move ahead with construction of connections that will eventually allow all US 60 traffic to move to the new roadway.
The contractor has indicated that with good weather traffic could be running on the new highway around the end of this year with a substantial amount of landscaping and other finish work to continue into 2015.
Yager Materials is the prime contractor on the US 60 Extension Phase I and Phase II. The total price tag for both phases is $72.9 million.
