According to the Madisonville Police report, Thomas Stevens, 18, Waverly and passenger were traveling north on South Main Street in the left travel lane approaching Subway, when pedestrian Shelly J. Dunlap, 39, Earlington entered the travel path from the east side of the road walking west, when the collision occurred.
Stevens told police, that when he noticed Dunlap, he applied his breaks, but due to the rainy and slick conditions, he was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.
According to several witnesses, Dunlap was walking from O’Reilly Auto Parts area, staggering in and out of traffic. Dunlap told those who were trying to help her, that she was under the influence of Methamphetamine.Officer Jeff Miller and the Madisonville Fire Department administered first aid until Medical Center Ambulance Service arrived on the scene to provide medical attention and to transport Dunlap to Baptist Health to treat her injuries.
