GREENVILLE, Ky. (7/21/14) — Greenville's Painted Window is a great place to view works by local and regional artists.

Leigh Ellen and Mark Stewart, proprietors of the Painted Window, opened the shop in April of this year.

The Painted Window is a art gallery and a consignment shop for artists from the area. It is also a whimsical gift shop, a place for painting parties, and is available for private art sessions.

Leigh Ellen Stewart has taught art in Muhlenberg County for the past 32 years. She and her husband enjoy traveling the region touring various art districts. Stewart says there are many places to visit. She particularly likes Paducah.

Stewart told the story of how Paducah suffered a flood in the historical district at some point in the past. The buildings involved in the disaster were becoming dilapidated, so the city sold each building for $1 to interested artists. The catch was that the buildings had to be renovated. The result was a wonderful art district that captures the imagination.

Stewarts's experiences with her students, her art tours, and her personal love of art led her to opening the Painted Window. Right now, the shop is on summer hours but when school starts it will only be open on the weekends. Stewart says that when the shop is open, a painted window will be hung on the porch. It will not always be the same window but they all represent what the shop is trying to accomplish — to open a window into the imaginations of people, and get them interested in art and, perhaps, encourage them to follow their own ideas into the area.

The Painted window is currently open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturdays. They are located at 122 West Main Cross in Greenville.
