James William (Bill) Moore, 84

BOWLING GREEN, KY - James William (Bill) Moore, 84, passed away Wednesday, November 14 at his residence surrounded by his family and caregivers.

A resident of Bowling Green since 1954, Bill Moore was born in Bardstown, Kentucky where he graduated from St. Joseph Preparatory in Bardstown and the University of Notre Dame. In his early career he was employed by Blue Cross-Blue Shield of Kentucky. He joined the insurance firm of Chester Hock Insurance in 1965 later becoming owner and operating under the name of Bill Moore Insurance until his retirement. In the early 70’s he became one of the few insurance professionals at that time to hold the prestigious certifications as a CPCU and CLU. He was a past director, Paul Harris Fellow, and over 50 year member of the Bowling Green Noon Rotary Club. Moore was a former member and past president of the Bowling Green Country Club. He was an avid fisherman, traveler, Civil War buff and lover of the outdoors. Bill and Della owned a cabin “Friends Place” at Barren River for 11 years that he enjoyed. In later years Bill loved to visit Disney World with kids and grandkids, and most of all lived for Notre Dame football and he cheered on the “Fighting Irish” this past Saturday night with a victory at his residence with his family. Bill Moore was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Crume Moore of Bardstown. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Della Hilton Moore, Daughters: Debbie Pitchford (Ted), Susan Walker (Tony) of Bowling Green, a son James (Jim) W. Moore Jr. of Colorado; eight grandchildren, Kim Holland (Brian) of Carrollton, Ga., Mark Hilliard (Lesslie), Phillip Walker, Lacey Walker, Anthony Walker, all of Bowling Green, Jacob Moore of California, Julie Moore of Colorado, Josh Pitchford (Shannon) of South Carolina and 5 great grandchildren. Two brothers, Lt. Gen. (ret) Hal Moore, Auburn, AL.; Ballard Moore of Naples, FL. One sister, Betty Moore Karp, Louisville, KY and fourteen nieces and nephews, and his faithful dogs, Annie and Sally, whom he loved so much.

Visitation will be Friday, November 16 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at J. C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel. There will be a brief celebration of life service at the funeral home immediately following visitation. Visitation will also take place at Holy Spirit Catholic Church 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. before mass on Saturday, November 17. A mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church with entombment in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Bowling Green.

Expressions of Sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hosparus, Warren Co., TLC Home Care Services, or Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to J. C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
