OWENSBORO, KY - Kenneth Barr Ward, 84, of Owensboro, passed away on Friday, December 7, 2012 at Owensboro Medical Health System. He was born on February 26, 1928 in Daviess Co., Ky. and was a U. S. Army veteran during World War II. He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church where he had been a lay minister and also of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Kenneth started out as a deck hand with the Union Barge Line, and eventually became an assistant engineer before moving up to chief marine engineer having worked for Red Circle Barge Lines and then retiring from the Ohio River Co. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #817 and was a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree with the Owensboro Assembly #2074. Kenneth loved doing volunteer work and helped out with various religious organizations.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Icy Boone Ward, his foster parents, Rossie and Lettie Hinton, a daughter, Deborah Ann Terry in 2006, a foster brother, Murl Hinton, and a brother, Charles Ward.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Wanda L. Smith Ward, a daughter, Lisa M. Dunsmore and husband Bill of Nashville, TN, two sons, Kenneth Michael Ward and Patrick Aloysius Ward, both of Owensboro, two grandchildren, Milissa Croghan and husband Philip of Virginia Beach, VA and Kyle Dunsmore of Louisville, two great grandchildren, Kayla and Eva Lyn Croghan, a sister, Dorothy Hosack of Oklahoma, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, December 11, at Blessed Mother Catholic Church with burial following in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-8:00 P.M. Monday with prayers at 5:00 P.M. and after 8:30 A.M. Tuesday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
