Merthel Lee Alford Hazelip, age 93 of Toccoa, Ga

BOWLING GREEN, KY - Merthel Lee Alford Hazelip, age 93 of Toccoa, Ga passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at Clary Center, Toccoa.

A daughter of the late James Monroe and Maggie Harris Alford, she was born April 19, 1919 in Edmonson County, Kentucky having lived most of her life in Bowling Green, Kentucky and the last 10 years in Toccoa, having resided in the Wilkinson Center and Clary Center. She was a graduate of Western Kentucky University, employed with Kentucky School System for a number of years and later along with her husband, owned and operated Prescription Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky and later Bowling Green Surgical Supply and Westland Drugs and other pharmacies in neighboring communities. She attended Lehman Avenue Church of Christ and while in Kentucky was active in two Garden Clubs in Bowling Green and contributed to Landmark Preservation Association in Bowling Green.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Patrick Hazelip. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dick Simmons of Toccoa; granddaughter, Tara Simmons of Charleston, South Carolina; niece, Bonita Jo Driver of Brownsville, Kentucky.

The family will receive friends at Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6-8 P.m. and on Thursday from 11 am until 2pm in the Bowling Green Chapel of Hardy & Son Funeral Home, Bowling Green, Kentucky. Graveside service will be Thursday, December 13, 2:00 p.m. At Fairview Cemetery, Bowling Green, Kentucky.

The family request that flowers be omitted. Memorials may be made to Power House for Kids, 768 Highway 123, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 or Toccoa-Stephens County Human Shelter, P.O. Box 2182, Toccoa, Georgia 30577 in memory of Mrs. Merthel Hazelip.
