BOWLING GREEN, KY - Ben Thomas (Tom) Cornwell, age 89, of St. Matthews in Louisville, Ky. passed away Dec. 10, 2012 in Louisville.
The Warren County native was a retired principal from the South Park Elementary School in Jefferson County School System with thirty four years of service, including Allen and Nelson Counties. He was a World War II veteran and obtained degrees in 1950 and 1953 from Western Ky. University.
Mr. Cornwell has resided in the Louisville area for more than sixty years and was a Baptist. He was a member of NEA, KRTA & JCRTA. In 1972, he was commissioned a Kentucky Colonel.
Survivors include a nephew and his family, all of Burlington, KY – Quentin Reynolds (Karen) Great Nephews – Tate & Brett Reynolds, and Great-Great Nephew – Brayden Reynolds. Also surviving are numerous cousins and extended relatives in Allen and Warren Counties, and two special friends from Louisville, Michael Harrod and Don Hartley who have cared for him the past several years.
A thanksgiving and memorial service will be conducted Friday, December 14 at 2 P.M. at the J. C. Kirby & Son Broadway Chapel In Bowling Green, Ky. Visitation will begin Friday at 1 P.M. at the funeral home with burial in the Fairview Cemetery.
