Richard (Dick) Eugene Owen, age 74, of Bowling Green, Ky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Richard (Dick) Eugene Owen, age 74, of Bowling Green, Ky passed away Saturday January 05, 2013 at his residence at 11:20 PM.

Born in Joplin, Missouri November 17, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen Britton Owen and John Noah Owen; two sisters Dorothy Owen and Patricia Lacey.

SGM Richard E. Owen retired from the Army after a long and dedicated service to his country to include the Vietnam War where he was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Richard was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, a member of The Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, American Legion Post 23, and was active in the Boy Scouts of America.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Marie Clark Owen, three daughters Beth Hillard (Jon) of Sarasota, Florida, Chris Keyser (Matthew) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Elaine Schaeufele (Jay) of Woodbridge, Virginia, a sister Beatrice Payne of Sante Fe, Texas; ten grandchildren (Michelle, Ryan, and Kyle Hillard; Rachel, Adam, and Aaron Keyser; John, Jacob, Britton, and Emily Schaeufele) and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4 PM to 7 PM followed by a Litany of Remembrance Service Tuesday, January 8 at J. C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel and Wednesday from 10 AM to 12 PM January 9 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church followed by the Rite of Christian Burial at 12 Noon with graveside service afterwards at Bowling Green Gardens, Lover’s Lane.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “Down Syndrome of South Central Kentucky-Buddy House” 522 State Street Bowling Green, Kentucky 42101.
