Alta Mae Lyons, age 96, of Bowling Green, Ky

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Alta Mae Lyons, age 96, of Bowling Green, Ky passed away Friday, January 18, 2013 at Hopkins Nursing Home in Woodburn at 9:20 am.

Alta was born April 18, 1916 in Barren Co., Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl Lyons, her parents Rev. J. L. and Stella Grimes Dawsey. Also three sister Oma Lee Dawsey, Mary Houchens and Era Hatcher and one brother Delton Dawsey and one son-in-law Jack Durham.
 
Alta was a retired nurse from The Medical Center, and Member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Barren Co. MaMa, as she was known to her family loved being a farmer’s wife and cooking for all the get togethers they had at Thanksgiving and Christmas. She especially loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Her love for people led her to become a nurse.
 
Survivors include one daughter Geneva Durham of Bowling Green, one son Earl E. Lyons (Betty Jo) of Lutz, FL, five grandchildren Kellie Durham Mahaney, Pamela Lyons Pinner (Doug), Michael Lyons (Lois), David Lyons, Kimberly Lyons Gregory (Scott), eight great grandchildren Craig Mahaney (Erika), Courtney Zamata (David), Jason Mahaney, Kenna Browning (Kerry), Danielle Lyons, Alex Pinner, Nicole Pinner, Tyler Gregory, six great great grandchildren Cameron Harrod, Zac Mahaney, Isabella Zamata, Conner Browning, Madilyn Mahaney, and Jack Mahaney. Also two nieces and one nephew survive.
 
The family would like to express their appreciation to her “family” at Hopkins Nursing Home for their love and care during her time there.
 
Visitation will be Monday, January 21 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Tuesday 9:00 am until service time at J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery #2. Arrangements have been entrusted to J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
