BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Rodney Dean Veitschegger was born Easter Sunday April 5, 1931 in Tacoma, WA. He went on to be with his Lord at 8:36pm January 31, 2013.
His parents were Virginia Leola Roberts Veitschegger and Frank Alois Veitschegger. He is survived by his wife: Cynthia Anne Kerr Veitschegger, children: Rodney Dean Veitschegger, Jr., MD of Bowling Green , Frederick Bense Veitschegger of San Antonio, TX, William Kerr Veitschegger, PhD of Folsom, CA, Maria Louise Childs, MD of College Station, TX , Cynthia Anne Bauer of Lenoir, NC, one brother Frank Veitschegger of Marshfield, Wisconsin. He is preceded in death by two sisters: Donna Malgarin of Kent, WA and Nadine Hollingsworth of Navato, CA. He has 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Rodney D. Veitschegger received his undergraduate and Masters degrees from the University of Washington having attended the Business University in Bowling Green for a portion of his undergraduate education. He was a Certified Public Accountant. He taught Accounting at Idaho State University 1960 – 64 and at Western KY State College and later Western KY University 1964 – 1994. He was a dedicated Christian who served faithfully as an Elder at Bowling Green Christian Church for many years. He has attended Greenwood Park Church of Christ in recent years. He was a charitable, thoughtful person and good father and husband. He was a member of the Gideons International for many years. He was an avid, respected, genealogist having done extensive work on several branches of family relations.
He was an Army veteran 1950 – 1953, a member of the Kiwanis Club and a KY Colonel. His interests were his faith, family, his garden and yard and his home. He was a voracious reader, particularly of current events. His knowledge, wise counsel, encouragement, unassuming loyalty and sincerity will be sorely missed.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 2, 2013 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Sunday 10:00 am until time of services at J. C. Kirby and Son Lovers Lane Chapel. Memorial Services will be Sunday 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
Expressions of Sympathy may be made to American Cancer Society, American Red Cross and Gideons International.
