BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Virginia Elizabeth Johnson Gregory, 99, was called home by her Heavenly Father on Monday, February 25 at 4:25 a.m. at Bowling Green Nursing and Rehab.
She was born on August 24, 1913 in Bowling Green to the late Herschel Norris and Era Pearl Geralds Johnson. She was the widow of Charles T. Compton and Sidney James Gregory. She is also preceded in death by her sister Marian Johnson. She retired as a seamstress and examiner from Fruit of the Loom after almost 30 years. She also did office work for several years. She was a member of The First Baptist Church and the Victoria Sunday School Class. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Chapel where she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Pianist. As a small child, she gave her heart to Jesus. She served him daily as an adult.
She is survived by her step-daughter Faye Green and her husband Sherman; two step-sons: James Donald Gregory and his wife Iris and Charles Oliver and wife Anna all of Bowling Green. Step-grandchildren: Juanita Green, Teresa Haley, Linda Padgett, Dianne West, Debbie Green and Rickey Green. 11 step-great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren. A sister-in-law, Bertha Pearson of Bowling Green. Expressions of Love can be made to the Emmanuel Day Care, 923 West Main Street Bowling Green, KY 42101.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel. A Celebration of her life will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral chapel with burial in the Fairview Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the J.C. Kirby and Son Broadway Chapel.
