BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Helen Jean Davis-Hampton was born November 30, 1929, to Mary Offutt-Davis-McClellan and Archie L. Davis, Sr, in Bowling Green, KY. In 1946 Helen graduated from State Street High School. Her employment consists of her working in the private sector and later employed at Union Underwear.
At an early age she united with State Street Baptist Church in 1939 under Pastor Reggie H. Johnson. Her involvement with the church consist of Edmonds Wray Choir for over 30 years. Helen served as president of the usher board and worked diligently on the culinary committee (where she was best known for her yellow cake/carmel icing).
On June 24, 1946, Helen was united in matrimony to James W. Hampton.
Helen is survived by her husband James along with daughters; Charlotte Reed of Louisville, KY. Barbara Levine (Thomas) of San Antonio, Texas. Pamela Hampton, Belinda Hammond of Louisville, KY. Grandchildren; Shannon Reed, Celeste Springs, Erica Hampton, Angela Hammond, Charles Johnson. Great Grandchildren; Nakailai Gissendanner- Springs ,Norman Springs III and Garbriele Hammond. Sisters; Joyce Tann (Leroy) . Step sister; Cora Dunn and Mary McClellan. Brother; James B. Davis. Sister in-law; Thelma Baker. Helen is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, sister Loretta Baptista, brothers Archie Davis (Sonny Boy), Arthur Davis and Roy Davis and daughter Patsy Johnson.
Visitation is on March 2 from 10:00AM - 12:00PM at State Street Baptist Church.
Service follows at 12:00PM.
